Overview / Usage

Ambilight is the short for ambient lighting which syncs the lights with whatever we want to create a ambient environment. In this project we are creating ambilight for a TV. In which the leds will tune to the color being displayed on the screen.The leds can also be used to sync to music to create a more immersive environment.

The main advantage of having a ambilight system is that it will reduce eye strain and create a more immersive experience while consuming content.

Methodology / Approach

A aRGB led strip will be installed behind the TV which will be controlled using a raspberry Pi 3b. The pi will be running a open source software known as hyperion which will tune the color of the LEDs with what is being displayed. on the screen.

The Pi 3b will be connected to a HDMI capture card which will process the input data and pass it on to hyperion to process and other output will be given as a passthrough to TV to display.

We can control the strips using our mobile phone as well due to ethernet capabilities of rPi 3b as well as the robustness of hyperion software.
