Overview / Usage

ASUS asked for me to create something unique as part of the ASUSFest 2021 campaign. Of course, as many parts as there could be had to be ROG and so, the Lian Li 011 Dynamic XL ROG Certified case was the basis of this project. I'm cautious, given there are literally thousands of 011 builds out there, so the challenge was to create something unique while fitting with the 80s vibe of the ASUSFest campaign.

Methodology / Approach

I knew I didn't want to go distro and the "conventional" 011 layout so then, what can I do differently? Well, parallel loops are rarely seen, especially in the 011 and to add a little more jazz to this one, I wanted to make it feel even more spacious somehow. Adding a mirrored panel to the rear of the case seemed a great idea and, as it turned out. worked really well.

I measured and designed up the panel in CAD, to include mounting for the case, bulkhead passthrough fittings, and also for a reservoir to be fitted. I loved the idea of the tube runs seemingly being elongated by their reflection, adding space and depth to the build. The panel was sent off to be laser cut, something I need to invest in for the future! When the panel arrived I was nervous, but I shouldn't have, it fitted perfectly the first time and every single hole was perfectly located for the layout of the build. The parallel loop helps create more space, and inquisitive minds soon see that it's different from the regular builds.

Given the theme, I knew that the color choice for the coolant and the cables was to be critical. Cue some purple here, a splash of orange there and it soon started coming together! Custom cables and coolant really help set off the 80s feel with some added glass etching to the front of the case. Again, completely drawn up in CAD, based on imagery that ASUS had sent, this crisp etching, applied with a custom cut stencil, turned out amazing.
