Overview / Usage
Inspired by Intel's drone show, a 3D masterpiece of art and airborne technology.
"the future is the only thing that can't be created, everything else is already created, it is actually a driving force - call it curiosity, call it hope, that gets things done which haven't been done before..."
You're able to display digital art, animated wallpapers, videos, system statistics, even have social media open at the bottom of the display (Twitter, for those scavenger hunt clues!)
PC case mod skills: Beginner & learning, this mod idea is within my realm of ability and finances.
Previous mod was a mini GPU USB drive https://twitter.com/RepsUp100/status/1067886934695981057 which was spotlighted by Nvidia on their GeForce Network YouTube channel, I've also done light modding such as switching out stock GPU fans and replacing them with case fans, etc.
Methodology / Approach
Parts:
Case - Silent Base 802 (provided in the contest) Monitor - 15 inch monitors (fits the case panel) Wires - RGB extension cable line LED Strip - LED strip lights Vinyl - black vinyl Double sided tape DVI to HDMI cable - 5 inch LCD touch display - HDMI L shaped adapter - Plasti-Dip Smoke
Tools:
Wire stripper, phillips screwdriver, ifixit opening tool, suction handle, brush, tact cloth to clean case surface before spraying, Dremel to cut case, ruler to measure, paint brush, primer, paint
Approach:
Using recycled monitors, remove screws, frame, circuit boards, controller, etc. Separate LCD from backlight, remove anti-glare film giving me transparent LCD screen Mount LCD panels and LED strips to the glass side panels & connect them to graphics card - Call this the Canvas/sky
Attach 5 inch LCD touch display on the front of the case (call it sentry bay) and use its display as a custom stat monitor for temps, fan speed, HDD/SSD space, memory/GPU/CPU utilization, etc. it can also control audio and different settings you're able to hotkey that will allow you to switch from different animations to display on Canvas/Sky.
I will be plasti-dipping the case using Plasti-Dip Smoke spray, it will give a special effect with transparent, black and gray color, 1-2 layers results in slightly smokey gray.
Image of a mechanical hand & human hand painted on the secondary side panel to symbolize humans connecting with technology like never before
Software:
Artpip, Screenplay, Rainwallpaper, NZXT CAM
Challenges & What could go wrong:
- Since I'll be using older used monitors people are giving away for free on Canada's version of Craigslist, they might simply not work and I'd have to go search for replacement
- Break the LCD panel in disassembly or mounting
- Anti-glare film does not strip off
- Electrocute myself from the monitor PSU still having charge in the capacitors
- Case space to route and mount cables and wires
- Alien invasion
Despite being a beginner modder, I do have confidence from my years of PC building hands-on experience & also visually learning from others I've come across on the internet, thanks for making this challenge and giving newbies like me an opportunity and faith to level up our PC tech game & skills - GLHF to all!
Technologies Used
Will be using the power of the Intel Core i9-12900K and Z690 motherboard as the brain & heart of the system 🧠💙💪🏼
