Ergonomics can roughly be defined as the study of people in their working environment. Ergonomics aims to improve workspaces and environments to minimize risk of injury or harm. Ergonomics aims to create safe, comfortable and productive workspaces by bringing human abilities and limitations into the design of a workspace, including the individual’s body size, strength, skill, speed, sensory abilities (vision, hearing), and even attitudes. ...learn more

Overview / Usage

The Department of Environment, Health and Safety’s (EHS), wants to provide information and education to allow any employee to avoid injury.
Currently EHS Provides:
• Providing information about ergonomics
• Providing consultation regarding workstation setup
• Giving on-campus training on ergonomics (as requested)
• Providing product evaluations
• Providing an online self-assessment tool. This tool will walk the individual through a self evaluation and provide the user with recommendations to modify their workstation.

But education alone won’t let employees to get rid of this injury. So we have come up with an realtime posture monitoring system to improve the employees health by alert him with an Alert message, when it finds that the position of user is Wrong, for a long period of time. We suggest the sensors to be placed in Belt and Spectacles for detecting the Posture of the User. Belt Provides the Hip Position and Specs provides the Neck Position.

Methodology / Approach

Data from both the Sensors from the belt and Specs are collected by a MCU and it is sent to the mobile App. The App First check for the mode of usage and then does the data Analytics depending on the mode given by the user. If the user position is found to bewrong for a particular amount of time, an alert message is sent to his Smart Watch. The Smart Watch provides a small, Vibration on his forehand indicating that he has to change his position immediately to work better.

Technologies Used
