Overview / Usage

Our goal for this project is to mod the Thermaltake Commander C34 case to replicate our Honda Prelude project show car. Once we finish the paint on the car and computer, the case will accompany us to the local car shows. At the show, the case will be displayed on a table next to the Prelude with internal details and a sponsor place card thanking those who have donated towards this project. In this fashion, those attending the show can see how they can bring their love of cars to their own computers. And such the collision of the two worlds will come full circle.

Methodology / Approach

The concept is simple, bring in as many elements of the Honda Prelude without overcomplicating the build and without losing the awesome Thermaltake Commander C34 case design. As the C34 case has the Honda like “H” as the front panel, this aesthetic will be untouched other than a slight color match of the paint in the interior of the “H” shape.

Moving to the inside, the concept is quite simple. We start with a black interior paint job. The motherboard is a dark black to stay as an understatement. The CPU and Memory water blocks will be set to a teal color to help the interior accents pop. Custom sleeved cable extensions will tie the colors and themes together. Cable clips will match the SickSpeed sponsored spark plug wire clips in the Prelude and will be modified for the PSU cables.

The GPU will be the main feature mod and will be modified with 3D printed parts to turn it into the H22A engine that is iconic in the later model Preludes. The GPU body itself will serve as the engine’s head, with exhaust headers coming out and toward the back of the case. The iconic DOHC VTEC valve cover will serve as the GPU’s backplate. Under the GPU will be an engine block, belts and pulleys that provides the proper aesthetics. For the liquid cooling, the liquid will be a bright neon green to represent the recognizable coolant that is used in motor vehicles today. The D5 pump will be covered by a 3D printed turbo and the radiator will be painted a bright silver, to represent the intercooler that required in a turbo’d vehicle.
