Overview / Usage
The reality of sexual violence and domestic violence on South African Campuses is astounding. University is an environment where people from all different backgrounds gather to live, work, socialise and study, making them microcosms of broader society. Within such settings it’s extremely difficult to counter what’s considered normal and, unfortunately, rape culture and violence against women flourish because of how normalised and entrenched it has become.Though most cases are incredibly underreported, rape culture should not be allowed to thrive in higher education institutions or anywhere else in the world.
This project is based on combating safety issues surrounding women/ girls in South African universities, using smart wearables with SOS emergency system which communicates directly to Campus Protection Services and Real-time GPS.
SOS emergency button can detect accurate SOS positioning of woman/girl in case of emergency
and Real-time GPS monitors position for single positioning with continous tracking around university parameters.
The SOS system alerts Campus Protection Services about the emergency , the nearest security to the emergency gets notified on their device and reponds in no more than 5 minutes. Campus Security should be able to respond that they received the notification, and the system should be available 24 hours and 99% of the time. The SOS connects to Campus Protection Services via GPS.
