Overview / Usage

With the advancement of technology in the present years, everything is becoming smart and connected to the internet so why not our mirror. This paper describes the idea of a Smart Mirror which aims to help people in multitasking and time management. It has speakers and a microphone for voice recognition and a camera for face recognition. Users can control the smart home appliances, play YouTube videos, Spotify, etc. everything by voice commands. This all is enclosed in a frame. Many researchers and start-ups have developed a personalized dashboard but they lack first-time user set-up and smooth integration with smart homes. In this paper, we report a smart mirror that has the easiest set up with a smartphone. Users can customize and control their mirror using a smartphone application to disable/enable any function and changing brightness volume and power on/off through their smartphone. The benefit of the proposed smart mirror is proven by the research and evaluation results, which showed that it helped people to multitask on the go and manage their time smoothly and efficiently. The emphasis is mostly on intelligible visualization, intuitive interaction, appealing information representation, and user situations that are readily accepted. We analyze and debate user-friendliness, information understanding, and user satisfaction as they relate to our design through a series of user studies. Based on the consequences, we outline future research prospects for enhancing the Smart Mirror system's user experience.

Methodology / Approach

The open-source modular smart mirror platform MagicMirror2. MagicMirror2 is based on Electron (which allows you to create cross-platform desktop apps in JavaScript, Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), which employs a modular approach, and allows you to keep your platform up to date without losing your Magic Mirror settings. The program contains a built-in web server, a socket-driven backend, and extensive documentation to assist you in developing your modules. Both the front and backend are developed in JavaScript (rather than a bloated jQuery framework) and take advantage of the capabilities of CSS animations to provide the smoothest experience possible. Magic mirror modules are cobbled using two web development frameworks: Laravel and Vue.js. The program lets you filter by category, tags, or developer and displays a visual depiction of the module. Many different modules can be used to add different features in a smart mirror-like live map, stocks and cryptocurrency rates, smart home control and integration, and voice assistant. Some default modules are date, time, weather, news, calendar. Touch control and virtual clothing with health stats can be also added.
