Overview / Usage

As computer hardware continues to advance, with software to match, we have entered an age where creating amazing-looking digital media is easier than ever before, even at an entry level. However, creating good design goes beyond just looks. It also must function well for the user, as well as for those down the pipeline who create and set up the functionality. Having a solid creative pipeline for creating assets is important in saving you time and frustration as well as develop a more interactive and playable asset.

By breaking the pipeline into manageable parts: preplanning and research, first pass, implementing and testing, and a final pass, you can save time in the long run by identifying and resolving problems earlier in the pipeline and produce a more well thought out and polished asset for better interactivity and playability.

Methodology / Approach

In the below article and videos within, I cover the four parts of my pipeline for creating a 3D asset from concept to creation to implementation with overall functionality in mind.

Along the way the article will demonstrate how you can utilize the most of the digital tools at hand to save time and frustration for yourself, as well as any teammates that may be developing functionality for said assets.

Technologies Used

PC, Intel Core i7 processor, Adobe Photoshop for concepting, Autodesk Maya 2016 for 3D modeling, Unity3D for in-engine implementation, Substance Painter for creating materials and textures.
