This project was a reconstruction of this place in the state of the end 50ies, where it was decommisioned as a depot for trams in order to be used for garaging busses. A lot of construction work was done in the following years and my thing was it to bring back to it´s former glory visualy. ...learn more

Overview / Usage

A huge ammount of research had to be done before starting to work on the image directly. Creating the scenery and it´s individual elements depends not on references only, but also on personal knowledge of the location. In that case i remembered quiete a lot of details due to the fact that my studio is not far away and i literally come across the place every day;)

Working on the meshes and textures results in testing, trial and erroring and exploring. You allways have to find the best compromise, because rendering such a scenery for weeks or even months is not an option at all.

Methodology / Approach

For this rendering almost everything had to be build from scratch. Photgrafical sources could not be used for the final rendering, because of the fact, that their quality was not good enough. But they could be used as references. All elements had to be modelled and textured seperately and later integrated into the master scene. Like in most of my images, the illumination was gi-based in combination with a few additional light sources.

Technologies Used

The project was filled with lots of high res textures and displacement maps, which ended in a quiete ambitious ram consumption. Due to the fact, that the rendering process was cpu-based two dual socket xeon workstations were used to take care of the final calculations. The visualization tool of my choice was Cinema 4D, puplished by Maxon Computer, in combination with it´s integrated Advanced Render. The final resolution was 2 by 1,1 meters, 300 dpi. The target was a high resoluted print for my customer. In order to get the result as expected you have to lean on stability and performance of your hardware.
