Overview / Usage

As a Master's in Computer Science study, my workloads change every semester. I began with running heavy computer vision programs to built software for the real world and moved onto testing the efficiencies of various machine learning algorithms. Now I'm simulating robotic movement to design better prosthetics and AI traffic to build better autonomous vehicle software. And at the end of any long day, all I want to do is sit back and build my high efficiency factory in Satisfactory, join my girlfriend for some competitive Valorant or kick back on a weekend with my friends in Destiny 2. So far, I've done it all on my very slow machine. So what could take me minutes has taken me hours, and avenues I could have explored have gone unused. This build aims to solve it all.

Methodology / Approach

I broke down my needs into the absolute essentials; several high power cores for when I'm running my ML models in a CPU bound load, a high performance GPU that's low noise to run a plethora of games from retro to AAA titles, and the most important are efficiency cores and lots of RAM for my daily video consumption in Chrome.

I then considered each component individually between the options (if they existed) and chose the one better suited to my needs. For those that were on a level playing field, I played favorites and factored in brand loyalty. Expensive does not always mean better sadly. And if a component did not play well with another, I backtracked to the alternate to check for improved results.

I watched a lot of videos and read a lot of reviews for each of the components. I don't think I've ever even studied this hard for one of my exams!

Technologies Used

  • I've done all this on my laptop powered by an i5-7200U CPU and 940MX
  • My Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 was used to design my digital sketches
  • My Samsung Galaxy S21 was my video camera.
  • MS Paint helped edit my photos
  • Adobe Premiere Pro helped me create my video walkthrough.
  • MS Excel helped keep track of the parts I chose.
